Sport, Physical Activity & Fitness
Would you like to add more movement and energy to your working day?
At a time when the demands of professional life often take up much of our attention, it is all the more important to make room for physical activity and well-being. With our physical activity offers, we aim to inspire you to find a healthy balance between work and personal well-being.
Physical activity recommendation
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that all adults aged 18–64—including those living with a chronic condition or disability—accumulate at least 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week (somewhat strenuous, elevated heart rate, but still able to talk), for example brisk walking or slow jogging. Alternatively, at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity per week is recommended (talking is not continuously possible; you become short of breath), for example dancing, jogging, fast cycling, or playing football.
In addition, the WHO recommends muscle-strengthening activities involving all major muscle groups on two or more days per week at least at moderate intensity.
At KIT, the University Sports Programme and the company sports groups offer more than 80 different sports in total, providing many opportunities for you to stay physically active. If you have questions about the medical suitability of (re-)starting an exercise programme, the Medical Services team will be happy to advise you.

Active Break at KIT
The Active Break is a 15-minute, low-threshold physical activity session at the workplace. You can join at any time—no prior experience is required. Currently, we offer two formats. The Active Break is a mix of exercises targeting different body areas and movement types, such as mobility, strengthening, balance, and stretching.
Qigong meets Active Break includes Qigong-based exercises. Slow and harmonious movements calm the mind, relax the body, and enhance well-being.
To make sure you don’t miss schedule changes, cancellations, or updates, please subscribe to the Active Break mailing list by emailing: aktivpause∂ifss.kit.edu
