Information papers on promoting physical activity among children and adolescents in the COVID-19 pandemic

Promotion of physical activity among children and adolescents in the COVID-19 pandemic in the living environments of schools, daycare centers and sports clubs

The papers were prepared under the leadership of the Robert Koch-Institut (RKI) and with the participation of student, teacher and parent representatives, welfare associations, the German Sports Youth and the Federal Center for Health Education. Also involved was the BMG working group "Promotion of Physical Activity in Everyday Life", which includes all the relevant professional societies and national experts from associations and science in the field of promotion of physical activity and sport.

The information papers are intended to support multipliers in daycare centers, schools and sports clubs in organizing the everyday lives of adolescents in a way that promotes physical activity, even in the face of pandemic-related restrictions. They provide a good overview of the importance and current situation of physical activity among children and adolescents and show how physical activity and sports can take place under pandemic conditions. In doing so, they help prevent or mitigate physical inactivity, weight gain, and psychosocial distress in children and adolescents as unintended consequences of corona protection.
