Project description
The Fitness Check is designed as a low-threshold, fitness- and health-related awareness measure targeting all first-semester students at KIT at the beginning of each winter semester. In the first phase, students participate in a Social Norms online survey, which assesses motor performance and other health-related parameters. The collected data are then contextualized using a social norms approach, providing each participant with individualized feedback by comparing their results to the overall data of the KIT student body. In the second phase, a limited number of first-semester students from all academic disciplines at KIT are given the opportunity—on a first-come, first-served basis—to undergo a basic fitness assessment. This assessment is conducted using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to evaluate body composition. Participants receive a printout summarizing their individual results, which is subsequently interpreted and explained by the respective test administrator. In the third phase, participants receive personalized counseling based on their assessment results. This includes recommendations for further actions and available support services at KIT. Additionally, participants are provided with informational materials offering an overview of the various potential follow-up programs and resources.
Objective
The objective of the Fitness Check project is to provide first-semester students at KIT with insights into their individual fitness and health status, raise their awareness of health and fitness issues, and inform them about the diverse physical activity and health promotion offerings provided by the Institute of Sports and Sports Science as well as University Sports. The Fitness Check aims to empower participating students by presenting clear actionable options for adopting a health-promoting lifestyle, through changes in personal habits or their environment.
