The Self-Understanding of the Student Health Lab
With the decision of the Presidential Board on November 8, 2021, student health management was established as a permanent task at KIT with coordination at the Institute of Sport and Sports Science. Student Health Management represents one of the two pillars of health management at KIT and serves to control all health-related processes in connection with students at KIT in a systematic and goal-oriented manner. It is closely coordinated with occupational health management, the second pillar of health management at KIT.
The vision of Student Health Management at KIT is to promote the health and well-being of the student body as well as their academic success in order to contribute to the fulfillment of KIT's mission to prepare students for responsible tasks in society, business and science.
Based on the umbrella strategy KIT 2025, the Presidential Board's resolution on the continuation of student health management of November 8, 2021, and following the Okanagan Charter, student health management at KIT pursues the goals of
- creating a health-promoting university environment for students,
- strengthening students' individual health resources,
- implementing measures to reconcile work, studies and family life, and
- preventing study-related risks.
The strategy of student health management at KIT is based on the ten quality criteria of a health-promoting university. Specifically, the goals are achieved in a setting-based, salutogenetic, systematic manner in the sense of the PDCA cycle, behavioral and relationship-based prevention and in a sustainable manner based on the Sustainable Development Goals. The SGM is based on a mission statement, sees health promotion as a cross-sectional task and creates participatory structures. It also focuses on inclusion and diversity as well as external networking.
The activities of student health management at KIT can be assigned to five areas of activity in accordance with the reflection and development tool “On the way to a healthy university”: Structure, Processes, Analysis, Communication and Measures.
