Whether it’s spikeball, frisbee, or Kubb – all students can borrow sports equipment free of charge from one of the Student Health Lab’s Spiel- und Sportkisten on KIT’s South Campus. The boxes are managed by the student councils, where the equipment is available for checkout.

Available sports and games equipment includes:
Spikeball, frisbee, Viking chess, badminton set, volleyball, soccer ball, table tennis (including rackets, mini table and balls) catch ball, soft frisbee, boccia set, indiaca, jump rope, and a ball pump.

The walk-in - Center for Fitness, Health and Diagnostics at the KIT Institute for Sports and Sports Science is a health-oriented fitness studio. The offer includes individual strength and endurance training on state-of-the-art fitness equipment under professional guidance, an extensive range of courses, comprehensive initial diagnostics as well as the use of the calisthenics park and swimming pool.

Sports activities offered by KIT SC

KIT SC (external link) is the sports club of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The three pillars of the club are competitive sports, recreational sports and health promotion. In competitive sports, nine sports, including both men's and women's teams, are currently represented under the banner of KIT SC, which currently compete in their leagues with other sports clubs. In the future, KIT SC will be the home for further new and attractive sports.

Public Swimming at IfSS

The IfSS indoor swimming pool is available to all KIT students at certain times and for a certain fee as part of the “Public Swimming at KIT” program.

Aktivpause-to-Go-App

The Aktivpause-to-Go-App (external link) allows you to take active breaks independently and thus integrate a targeted break into your working day. You can decide for yourself when, where and how long you want to take active breaks. The wide range of exercises comes from the established active break program at KIT and was compiled by scientists at the Institute of Sport and Sports Science at KIT. The development of the Privacy Friendly App: “Aktivpause to Go!” was carried out by the team of Prof. Melanie Volkamer.

On the YouTube channel of the Institute of Sport and Sport Science you will find numerous short active break videos (external link) (e.g. for stretching the neck or strengthening the back), which are suitable for breaking up longer periods of sitting.

University Sports Locator

KIT University Sports offers its participants optimally equipped sports facilities. In addition to the indoor facilities with the two multifunctional sports halls, the gymnastics hall, the swimming pool and the martial arts room, university sports offers a fully equipped stadium with a tartan track as well as tennis courts, basketball and beach volleyball courts, an artificial turf pitch, an open-air hall and a calisthenics park. But it's not just at KIT's South Campus that you can get involved in sports. You can also find sports facilities at other locations in and around Karlsruhe using the University Sports' sports location finder.

Standing Desk Rental at KIT Library

Mobile standing desks are available in each reading room for you to study and work in the work areas of the KIT Library South. They can also be used at home. To do this, you must check out the standing desks via the KIT catalog.

Performance and Health Diagnostics at IfSS

The Institute for Sports and Sport Science offers various performance diagnostic tests, such as measuring basal metabolic rate, assessing body composition using bioelectrical impedance analysis, or conducting a lactate threshold test to determine endurance performance. These tests provide you with an objective assessment of your physical performance, which can assist in optimizing your training.

National Recommendations for Physical Activity

The National Recommendations for Physical Activity and the Promotion of Physical Activity (external link) are the first to describe the scientific basis for the health benefits of physical activity in Germany and show how physical activity can be promoted in people's everyday lives in different settings.  The recommendations apply to children and young people, adults and older people as well as adults with chronic illnesses. A number of notable scientists were involved in their development.
