This year’s European University Rowing Championships took place in Zagreb from August 27 to 30. The many international teams, the sports-loving city, and the anticipation of the upcoming races created a very special atmosphere that set the perfect tone for the competition days. The EUC was a special experience for the team, which celebrated some great successes.

Firas Skandrani will represent WG Karlsruhe at the European Universities Taekwondo Championship in September. In Tirana, he will compete against students and taekwondo athletes from various universities across Europe. After many years of practicing taekwondo, competing in a European university championship is a special athletic highlight. His target for Tirana is clear: to achieve the best possible finish and compete for a medal.

The swimming pool at IfSS will remain closed through October 4, 2026, for cleaning and repair work. Public swimming is not permitted.

The EUG in Salerno at the end of July marked the sporting highlight of the summer for the Karlsruhe 3x3 basketball team. After the team had qualified for the tournament the previous year by winning the DHM—at that time with a largely different lineup—it now represented KIT and Germany in 3x3 basketball on the European stage.

Following last year’s success, we’re excited to travel to the IJsselmeer in the Netherlands again this fall. In Workum and the surrounding area, we’ll find plenty of beginner-friendly spots as well as a dedicated kitesurfing school. This is the perfect opportunity to wrap up the summer and dive into a new sport! All the details are in the event announcement.

The DHM Ultimate Frisbee tournament took place on June 27 and 28. A total of 15 teams competed for the title in Heidelberg. The tournament was played in the real-mixed format, in which seven players from each team faced off for each point. With a commanding performance, the team won the final 10–3, securing the title. With this victory, Karlsruhe became the German collegiate champion in Ultimate Frisbee for the eighth time, making it the sole record holder.

For the “Advanced Rowing” department, this year’s DHM, held July 10–12, 2026, in Krefeld on Lake Elfrath, was a major milestone. We competed with the largest number of HSP participants in years and achieved excellent results!

On June 20, we set out early: out on the water at 5:00 a.m., joining a large fleet of other boats on the Rhine. We rotated the helmsman or helmswoman every 30 minutes, which proved to be a sensible schedule. The first serious challenge wasn’t long in coming: Shortly after our first short break, a wave from a cargo ship hit us with full force, forcing us to bail and pump like crazy afterward. The Rhine makes it clear right from the start who’s really in charge here.
