It's that time again - the university sports kitesurfing camp is calling! From 26.9. to 2.10.2024 it's "Cast off!" for an action-packed week on the Ijsselmeer in Holland. Registration is still open until the end of July. All information about the camp and registration can be found in the article.

The athletics group took part in the 10km DHM on 05.07.24 as part of the Cologne Zoo Run. The 10.051km course involved 6 laps of the zoo, with the monkeys roaring and the spectators cheering on the runners-up in the women's and team categories.

On Saturday, July 6, the universities of WG Munich, TU Berlin, WG Cologne, WG Göttingen, WG Tübingen and host Karlsruhe competed in the DHM Basketball Finals. After an exciting and extremely evenly matched group phase and the subsequent knockout games, WG Munich was able to secure the title of University Champion 2024.

This summer, the Karlsruhe competition community will be represented in the sports of beach handball, soccer, taekwondo and volleyball at the 6th edition of the European Universities Games in Debrecen and Miskolc. Our teams will be competing between 10 and 24 July 2024. The international mixed sports tournament, organized by the Erasmus Students Network Karlsruhe, celebrated its second edition and was a great success. In bright sunshine on June 29, 2024, over 30 exchange students enthusiastically took part in the sports event and competed against each other in four different sports at the IfSS sports facilities. Every moment of the tournament was characterized by enthusiasm and team spirit, all participants enjoyed the competitions and the excellent conditions on site.

The German University Volleyball Championships took place in Stralsund on the weekend of June 29 and 30, 2024. The men's team from WG Karlsruhe was crowned the winner in an exciting tournament and was able to defend its title from last year. After a difficult start to the tournament, the women's team finished in 5th place.

On June 17, one men's and two women's teams played at this year's DHM in Bayreuth. The men took 7th place and the women an impressive 4th place. On June 29, the adh-Open in Constance continued. There, two mixed teams played in the tournament tree, with one team achieving 5th place.

As part of the EUG 2024, the WG Karlsruhe beach handball team will be traveling to Debrecen in Hungary at the end of July. Over three tournament days, both the men's and women's teams will compete against 7 other European university teams, including some top-class players. Our men's and women's teams will be competing with well-established teams, so despite the strong field of participants, they will be doing everything they can to achieve the best possible ranking and cause a surprise or two.

Jessica Wolf and Kaize Zhou will represent KIT at this year's European Universities Games (EUG) in the sport of taekwondo, which will take place from July 19 to 24 in Miskolc, Hungary. Jessica is competing in the women's -57 kg category and Kaize in the men's -58 kg category. Both fighters qualified for the European Championships with very successful results at the DHM 2023 and 2024. Many European fighters who have already enjoyed international success are expected to take part.

The women's soccer team is looking forward to participating in the European Universities Games 2024, which will take place in Debrecen from July 9 to 18. The young and newly formed team, with an average age of 21, consists of 12 talented players who are full of enthusiasm and anticipation for the European Championships in Hungary. The players are ready to showcase their skills at this major European student sporting event.

This year's university team fencing championships took place in Heidelberg on June 22 and 23. The athletes fought exciting duels over two days of competition. The team from Karlsruhe came 8th and 16th in men's epee and 3rd in foil. For the fencing department, the weekend was a successful representation with a medal for the team.

This year's DHM in table tennis drew 16 students from Karlsruhe to Hamburg, where they took part from May 24 to 26. From a sporting point of view, the tournament offered numerous exciting matches. The competition was particularly strong in the singles, but that didn't stop the players from Karlsruhe from putting in impressive performances.

The European Universities Games 2024 in the sport of soccer, which will be held in the Hungarian city of Debrecen from July 9 to 18, promise to be an exciting sporting event. After their triumph in Munich in the summer of 2023, the men's soccer team will be arriving as the reigning German university champions with a squad of 20 players and are hoping to continue their success in Debrecen. With a high level of motivation and team spirit, they want to come out on top again and bring the title back to Karlsruhe.

The European University Championships are just around the corner and the anticipation is high. The reigning German university volleyball champions will play for the European crown in Miskolc, Hungary, from July 8 to 17, 2024. Last year, the WG Karlsruhe team took fourth place in Portugal. This year, the team will be traveling to Hungary with more players and will once again be fighting for the medals. With a strong team and the will to win, the team is optimistic going into the tournament.

A huge thank you to everyone who made the Sport-Sommerfest 2024 an unforgettable event! With over 1000 enthusiastic visitors, this year's Sport Summer Festival was a complete success. KIT University Sports and the SEEBURGER College Wizards will jointly host the final round of the German University Championships 2024 at KIT on July 6 and 7, 2024. TU Berlin, WG Cologne, WG Göttingen, WG Tübingen and WG Munich will be taking part. The game will be played on Saturday from 11.00 a.m. at the KIT Sports Institute. Tip-off for the final is on Sunday at 1.45 pm.

On 16.06.2024, the ADH Cup Road Bike was held as part of the "Campus Pedal" event at the TU Ilmenau. According to the organizers, a "technically demanding course" of 1.6 km in length had to be completed a total of 30 times. The total distance was 48 km and 900 meters in altitude, spread over very short, crisp climbs. More in the report.

The annual German University Ultimate Frisbee Championships took place on June 8 and 9. This year, however, Karlsruhe was not only a participant but also the host of the tournament, which is why university teams from all over Germany came to the fan-shaped city. On a pleasantly sunny day, the teams played exciting games and showed great spirit.

The team from Karlsruhe was back on the French Atlantic coast from 25.05. to 01.06. to represent the KIT in surfing. After the waves were far too small and barely surfable last year, expectations were high this time. In the newly created team contest, in which the team was only beaten by the team from Kiel, a well-deserved 2nd place was achieved.

The Sports Summer Festival will be back in 2024! The campus sports highlight will take place on Thursday, 20.06.2024 from 17:00 on the grounds of the Institute of Sport and Sports Science (IfSS). This year, the DHM in Ultimate Frisbee will take place in Karlsruhe. 18 teams with a total of almost 300 players will compete for the title in Karlsruhe on June 8th and 9th. It will be played in mixed mode and, in addition to the German University Champion 2024, the spirit winner of the tournament will also be crowned. The venue is the IfSS on the south campus of the KIT and the MTV Karlsruhe. All information in the article.

Summer, sun, quarry pond: the diving department's beginners' training has been in full swing since April. After practising the theory and basics in winter, the divers are currently busy in the surrounding quarry ponds. They practiced with the new suits, so that the participants were able to stay under water for a long time, also due to the temperature, and so the one or other carp, pike and perch could be observed.

The German University Championships (DHM) took place at Roundnet in Hamburg on the weekend of May 24-26, 2024. It was a successful tournament for the team from Karlsruhe with impressive placings in various categories, including a podium finish in the women's event and the DHM title in the mixed event.

On 06.05.2024, our women's volleyball team traveled to Heidelberg for the preliminary round of the DHM in volleyball. The destination was clear: Stralsund. After a short acclimatization period, they were able to record confident victories against the teams from Mainz, Heidelberg and Darmstadt. And thus qualified for the final round in Stralsund.

On 03.05.2024, the preliminary round of the DHM in men's volleyball took place here in Karlsruhe. The aim was to qualify the second team for the final round in Stralsund alongside the already qualified first team. Unfortunately, they did not win a match and missed out on qualification. All the greater is the motivation to try again next year.

On the Whitsun weekend, the KIT floorball team made its way to this year's adhOpen Floorball near Hanover. After last year's victory in their own hall, the Karlsruhe team was unfortunately unable to defend last year's title despite a great team performance. They secured an excellent 2nd place.

This year's DHM badminton championships took place in the old capital Bonn from May 9 to 12. After exciting matches, the WG Karlsruhe badminton team was able to return home satisfied with a second and a third place and a lot of new memories and is already looking forward to next year.

For the two KIT athletes, the long journey to Duisburg for the DHM Leichtathletik was well worth it. Both were delighted with great performances, podium finishes and even a German university championship title. All information in the report.

On 03.04.2024, the intermediate round of the DHM Table Tennis took place in Göttingen, where our team took a strong second place. The highly motivated team was able to compensate for short-term absences due to illness and deservedly qualified for the final round in Hamburg.

In order to introduce the international community at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology to hiking, Mareike Schroeter launched the pilot project "Hiking for international students" together with the University Sports Department and the International Buddy Program. The WG Karlsruhe achieved a great 2nd place in the competition ranking published for 2023 and was able to significantly improve on last year's ranking (5th place). At national level, the team achieved top 3 placings in all sub-rankings. The WG Karlsruhe was also at the forefront at international level, where the WG Karlsruhe rowing team excelled. The summer edition of the HSP Kickoff will take place on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. in the Sparda Sportpark, on the outdoor facilities of the IfSS. This semester for the first time with a small sports equipment flea market and the coffee break, as well as traditionally with various hands-on activities of the HSP departments, a fitness challenge of the walk-in and waffles for the benefit of a donation project. The aim of the "Fitness Check" project is to provide first-semester students at KIT with information about their individual fitness and health status, to raise their awareness of their health and fitness, and to inform them about the wide range of exercise and health activities offered by the IfSS and university sports.

What does the everyday life of a professional athlete look like? How did the triathlon develop and why are humans the creatures with the greatest endurance? All these questions were answered by 2007 triathlon world champion and Olympian Daniel Unger in his lecture on 27.01.2024 at the Institute of Sport and Sport Science.

On 21.01.2024, the DHM athletics (indoor) took place in Sindelfingen with a large contingent of athletes from WG Karlsruhe. At the first DHM of the year, the athletes were able to achieve great performances in various disciplines, including some personal bests. Former world-class triathlete Daniel Unger will be coming to Karlsruhe on 27.01.2024 at 18.00 (Hörsaal Sport)! With numerous World Cup victories and the World Championship title under his belt, he now works as a national coach at the Olympic training center in Saarbrücken and will give a multi-layered insight into the world of triathlon. All interested parties are cordially invited to attend!

As part of the adh General Assembly and the 75th anniversary of the adh, KIT University Sports under the direction of Dr. Dietmar Blicker was awarded the title "University of the Year 2023". The team was honored on the Munich TUM campus in the Olympic Park as a representative of the outstanding work of the entire KIT University Sports.
