From July 4 to 6, 2025, the floorball team from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) once again focused on the adh-Open Floorball - the largest student floorball tournament in Germany. In a top-class field of participants, the team from Karlsruhe not only proved their athletic ability, but also their fighting spirit and team spirit - and ultimately secured a respectable 6th place.

Group stage: Solid performance - quarter-finals narrowly reached

The group stage was a tough one. The KIT team had to assert itself against several strong opponents - including the teams from the University of Konstanz and the University of Halle, against whom they had to admit defeat in intense matches. Despite some setbacks, the team fought its way through and showed a clear improvement in performance, especially in the final group matches. With a cohesive team performance, the KIT team achieved 4th place in the group - and thus narrowly but deservedly advanced to the quarter-finals.

Quarter-final: Strong performance against the eventual tournament winners

In the quarter-finals, the team faced the tournament favorites from Munich - a technically outstanding team that confirmed its class in the rest of the tournament by winning the title. Karlsruhe fought tooth and nail to avoid elimination, played with commitment and discipline, but ultimately had to succumb to Munich's efficiency.

Revenge against Hanover: Penalty thriller with a happy ending

In the subsequent placement match, the team met up again with the University of Hanover - and had the chance to get revenge. The match developed into an exciting duel at eye level, in which both teams gave their all until the last second. After regulation time and extra time, the game had to be decided in a penalty shootout. The KIT team showed nerves of steel there: the shooters converted safely, the goalie made a crucial save - and Karlsruhe secured the much-acclaimed victory.

Match for 5th place: narrowly defeated by RWTH Aachen

In the final match for fifth place, the KIT team faced RWTH Aachen. In a fast-paced game with numerous chances on both sides, the last bit of luck was missing in the end - Karlsruhe was narrowly defeated 4:3, but was once again able to produce a strong team performance.

Conclusion: Proud of 6th place - coach praises commitment and team spirit

The KIT team can be more than satisfied with 6th place at the adh-Open Floorball 2025. Throughout the tournament, the team showed passion, discipline and team spirit - especially in the close games and in the emotional penalty win against Hanover. The coach's comments after the tournament were also correspondingly positive: "I'm proud of the whole team - for the performance achieved, the commitment and dedication of each individual. We have shown that we can compete at a high level." With this performance behind them, the team is motivated for the coming season - and is looking forward to the next adh-Open!
