  • Datum: 16.07.2025
  • The German High Fencing Championships took place in Dresden on 28.06. and 29.06.2025. At this event, all disciplines were held exclusively as team competitions. Karlsruhe was represented by a total of eleven teams, making it the university with the most participants.

The men's epee team kicked things off on Saturday. After a mixed preliminary round, three of the four Karlsruhe teams were able to prevail in the first knockout round. Unfortunately, the remaining Karlsruhe teams were eliminated in the following round. The best result was achieved by the team consisting of András Bogár, András Pásztor, Simon Liehmann and Étienne Martin in eleventh place. The other teams came 19th, 16th and 12th.

In the women's floret, the Karlsruhe team consisting of Raphaelle Chan, Susanna Kurz and Raphaelia Koiou also had a mixed preliminary round, but were then able to impress in the knockout round of 32. In the next round, however, they were clearly beaten by the University of Stuttgart and finished in a respectable 13th place.

The last competition of the day was the men's sabre. Thanks to a strong preliminary round, which the Karlsruhe team consisting of Moritz Kahl, Mael Doll and Daniel Brommer finished in second place, the team qualified directly for the semi-finals. There they faced the eventual winners from Darmstadt. Despite catching up in the meantime, the team was narrowly defeated 42:45. The reward for their strong performance was an excellent 3rd place and the bronze medal.

The next competition day started with the men's foil. Three of the four Karlsruhe teams made it through to the second knockout round. There was an internal duel between Karlsruhe 3 and Karlsruhe 1, which was clearly in favor of the first team. The first team, consisting of Simon Bender, Elishua Litle, Matthias Wolsfeld and Elias Ott, also impressed in the quarter-finals and thus advanced to the semi-finals against the University of Dresden. Despite a strong comeback in the last match by Elishua, who managed to make up nine points, the team had to admit defeat to a strong Dresden team. The final result was third place and the bronze medal. The other teams finished in 11th, 14th and 20th place.

Raphaelle Chan, Susanna Kurz, Raphaelia Koiou and Antonia Weis competed in the women's épée. After a good preliminary round and a strong knockout round of 16, the Karlsruhe team was beaten 41:45 by the University of Mainz in the quarter-finals, narrowly missing out on the semi-finals. In the end, the team finished the tournament in 7th place.

Overall, the Karlsruhe teams performed strongly and were able to gain a lot of new experience. We would like to thank the Dresden University Sports Center and the Radebeul Fencing Club for the successful organization of this DHM.
