With the HSP Winter Kickoff 2026/2027, KIT’s university sports program kicked off the new winter term and once again offered visitors the opportunity to explore the diverse world of university sports. Numerous departments presented their sports and, through hands-on activities and informational sessions, invited attendees to discover new athletic interests and try them out right away.
Participating departments included sailing, rugby, trampoline, lacrosse, forró, judo, floorball, unicycle, rock climbing, alpine skiing, track and field, pickleball, floor hockey, underwater rugby, competitive rowing, rowing, acrobatics, juggling, aerial acrobatics, roundnet, medieval & LARP dances, American football (KIT SC Engineers), scuba diving, ABC, and table tennis. The international buddy program (INTL) and the walk-in health center were also represented and enriched the event. The wide range of participating departments demonstrated once again just how diverse university sports at KIT are and how many opportunities there are to engage in sports together.
In addition to the athletic activities, the tried-and-true highlights away from the sports fields also contributed to a pleasant atmosphere. Visitors could refuel at the University Sports Team’s waffle stand, while the sports gear flea market invited them to browse, swap, and discover new items.
Once again, the social engagement associated with the course was particularly heartening: The sports gear flea market and the waffle stand raised a total of €278.45 in donations. The funds will benefit Kinder & Jugend ARCHE Karlsruhe e. V., supporting its important work for children and young people.
The HSP Winter Kickoff thus not only offered a diverse glimpse into the university sports program but also combined athletic variety and community with a good cause. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all participating departments, the dedicated volunteers, and all visitors who contributed to the course’s success. We look forward to an active winter term in 2026/2027!
