KIT runner at DHM half marathon

On May 22, 2016, the city of Mainz invited to the annual Gutenberg Marathon and in connection with it the German University Championships in the disciplines half marathon and marathon took place.

As you would expect from Mainz, about 75,000 spectators came to cheer on the runners in the best possible weather.

The course also ran through the city center of Mainz and passed several sights, such as the Christuskirche and the Mainz Cathedral. Due to the hot weather, the fire department had to provide cooling for the athletes at regular intervals. Of course, proper catering was provided during and after the run.

The winners of the German University Championships in the marathon were Isabel Schäberl from the TU Munich and Oliver Hoffmann from the TH Mittelhessen. In the half marathon discipline, Julia Kümpers from the University of Bonn and Niels Bubel from Beuth HS in Berlin won. The KIT representative in the half marathon discipline, Katrin Schnürle, reached the 17th place.
