Thanks to the Olympic Training Center, Saarbrücken has been one of the top teams in badminton competition for years. This time they came with three young national players and wanted to be among the top 4 in Germany again after a three-year "break".

The WG Karlsruhe also impresses with a high level of regional league players and so they wanted to upset the favorites. The score was 1:1 after the two doubles matches, but Jasmin Greissl and Fabian Schlenga seized the moment in the singles and won their matches by a clear margin. Franziska Willenbacher and Lukas Burger had the chance to prove themselves against the reigning German university champions in the final match. However, their defeat did nothing to change Karlsruhe's 3 to 2 overall victory.

In the second game of the day, Saarbrücken beat Freiburg 4 to 1. The evening match between Karlsruhe and Freiburg was an exciting affair, especially in the women's matches. Franziska Willenbacher/Stephanie Vogel put up an almost traditional fight against Eileen and Moana Klein. After three sets, the Freiburg team earned the point of honor, as all other matches were won by Karlsruhe. This means that WG Karlsruhe is one of the four best teams in Germany and can play for the German University Championship title next year in May.

Playing for WG Karlsruhe were: Jasmin Greissl, Stephanie Vogel, Franziska Willenbacher, Lukas Burger and Fabian Schlenga.
