The German University Judo Championships took place in Passau on December 6 and 7, 2025. Athletes from all over Germany traveled to compete at national level. The delegation from Karlsruhe was represented by a total of 25 judoka and competed with motivation on both competition days.
The individual competitions were held on Saturday. In the various weight classes, the athletes from Karlsruhe put in committed and strong performances. Many encounters were hard-fought and offered exciting judo at a high level. Special mention should be made of Marco Frey, who put in a strong performance in the weight class up to 90 kg and finished in an excellent 3rd place.
On Sunday, the mixed team competitions were first on the program. The Karlsruhe team lost both matches and was unfortunately unable to prevail in this competition.
Unimpressed by this, Karlsruhe started in the Newcomers Cup - and provided the absolute highlight of the weekend. The Newcomers Cup is a separate team competition within the DHM, which is aimed at teams that are not competing for the official title of German University Champion. It offers less experienced judoka in particular the opportunity to gain valuable competition experience in a team format. With great fighting spirit, strong mutual support and a lot of team spirit, the Karlsruhe team prevailed against the competition and won the Newcomers Cup. The jubilation over this success was correspondingly great and made Sunday a good end to the DHM 2025.
Overall, the DHM Judo 2025 in Passau was a successful competition weekend for the Karlsruhe delegation. In addition to the bronze medal in the individual competition and the victory in the Newcomers Cup, the focus was on team spirit, the shared competition experience and the experience gained.
