Table tennis team qualifies for DHM intermediate round

  • Datum: 19.12.2023
  • The first round of the DHM table tennis championships took place in Freiburg on December 8. As in previous years, the competition was expected to be good, making it difficult to qualify for the intermediate round. However, the team from Karlsruhe was also very well positioned, including top player Karl Walter, who plays in the 3rd Bundesliga.

Excellent conditions awaited us in Freiburg, so that we were able to achieve our first clear 6:0 victory against the University of Stuttgart. The next match was against the team from Constance, against whom we also won 6:0 without losing a single point. Everything was therefore ready for the final top match against the hosts from Freiburg, who were also unbeaten up to that point. With two experienced Oberliga players, they were definitely the strongest opponents. The doubles were 1:1, although the weaker doubles team from Karlsruhe only just lost in the fifth set to the top men from Freiburg. After the first singles in the top pairing, the match was still tied. What set the team from Karlsruhe apart, however, was that they had traveled with six players (only four have to play at any one time) and were therefore able to set themselves up perfectly for the back four, where they also won two very clear matches. With this lead, they were no longer able to take first place and were also able to win both singles matches in the top pair.

Thanks to an outstanding team performance and highly motivated players, the success went to Karlsruhe. They are already looking forward to competing in the intermediate round and possibly qualifying for the final four of the university championships with a phenomenal team.
