1st and 2nd place at the DHM athletics championships in Erfurt

  • On February 14, 2026, the German University Championships in Athletics took place in the Hartwig-Gauder-Halle in Erfurt. Six athletes from KIT and one athlete from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences took part, competing together as the Karlsruhe competition team.


    Julian Bowe was able to secure his place in the final in the 60m preliminary heat with a time of 7.17s, in which he achieved a season's best of 7.15s. He also took part in the long jump, where he was able to bring home a bronze medal with a distance of 6.74m. Both sprint distances were on the program for Colin Schiller. After 7.32 seconds over 60 meters, he ran the 200 meters in 22.81 seconds. Emma Striebel also competed in the 60m and qualified for the finals.


    German university champion in the 800m is Johannes Hein, who won his race in 1:51.67 minutes. His training colleague Joel Tutzschky, who set a new indoor best in 1:58.16 minutes, and road runner Jonathan Sieberg, who finished in 2:16.75 minutes due to the fast initial pace, also took part in the same race. Tobias Kaloghlian secured another podium finish in the 60m hurdles; he finished third in the preliminaries after 8.59s and third in the final after 8.61s.


    The 4x200 meter relay team (Tobias, Colin, Johannes, Joel) finished in 1:31.28 minutes, narrowly missing out on victory against the competition team from Halle (1:31.06 minutes), but were able to round off an all-round successful day of competition by defending their runner-up title.
