The KIT fencers use the money to replace and renew some parts of their equipment.

The KIT University Sports Group Fencing offers active fencers who study or are employed at KIT or partner universities the opportunity to train with each other twice a week within the framework of competition training and to participate regularly in competitions. Currently, about 35 athletes regularly use this offer. In the last few years, the club has been represented at the German University Championships in large numbers and with great success. Thus, the first epee team in 2014 won the Viezemeistertitel and in the following 2 years in each case an excellent 3rd place.

In addition, a beginner's course and an advanced course are offered every semester, each of which gives 15 to 20 participants the opportunity to learn about the sport of fencing. During the courses, the participants learn fencing to such an extent that by the end of the course they are able to participate in tournaments independently. Each semester, these courses are so popular that there are usually over 40 students still on the waiting list for the beginners' course.

The donation of BB-Bank now enables the KIT fencers to replace equipment that has become defective or worn out over the years and thus to maintain the current fencing offer at KIT in the future and to expand it if necessary. A first step in this direction is the planned organization of the German University Fencing Championships in Karlsruhe next year.

"BB-Bank would like to use its funds to support the commitment of clubs and non-profit institutions and thus share part of the social responsibility," Wursthorn explained during the handover.

The donation comes from the funds of the Gewinnsparverein Südwest e.V. BB-Bank members have subscribed to around 700,000 tickets there. Gewinnsparen is a lottery in which one can participate with five euros per month and ticket and win valuable prizes such as trips, vehicles or cash. Four euros are saved and paid back to the profit savers shortly before the end of the year. With the draw amount of one euro, each ticket supports a charitable cause. Tickets are available at any BBBank branch.

With donations and sponsoring measures amounting to more than two million euros, BBBank supports projects in the fields of social welfare, education, science, culture, and sports throughout Germany every year.

The KIT fencers would like to express their sincere thanks to BB-Bank for supporting their work in the form of this generous donation.
