DHM Athletics in Schwäbisch Gmünd

On May 10, the German University Championships in athletics took place in Schwäbisch Gmünd. A total of 15 athletes competed there for Karlsruhe and were able to secure several podium places.

Three out of three Karlsruhe relay teams finish on the podium

Yannik Probst ran 2:01.91 minutes over a distance of 800 meters, beating his personal best and finishing fifth. Sascha Graf threw the javelin 71.52 m, more than one meter further than last year, securing second place.

Our multi-discipline athlete Nils Kruse competed in three events. With 15.95s in the hurdles, 4.30m in the pole vault and 39.93m in the discus throw, he achieved fifth place in each discipline. Several Karlsruhe athletes also competed in the hard-fought sprint disciplines.

In the men's 100m, Philipp Herderich, Pascal Erdmann and Arthur Kadnikov unfortunately did not qualify for the finals, but Wendelin Wäcker finished third in the B final with 10.81s and Benjamin Fischer, who was only 2 hundredths faster than Wendelin in the preliminary heat, finished fifth in the A final with 10.80s. In the 200m heats, Benjamin finished a somewhat unfortunate 4th in 21.66s and Wendelin sixth in 21.77s.

Elena Fantino, Johanna Ossmann and Tabea Müller competed in the women's 100m. Elena and Johanna unfortunately did not reach the final. Tabea, on the other hand, was able to secure the standard for the U23 German Championships with her qualifying time and finished fourth in the B final. She also competed in the 200m and finished seventh in 25.19s. Nils Wlasak ran the 400m in 51.53s, cracking the top ten this year and finishing in 9th place.

The team from Karlsruhe achieved their masterpiece in the relay races. They competed with two men's and one women's relay team. Philipp Herderich, Pascal Erdmann, Wendelin Wäcker and Benjamin Fischer won the German university title in the men's 4x100m. They finished in 42.88s, around half a second ahead of the relay team from Erlangen-Nuremberg, followed by our second relay team of Arthur Kadnikov, Nils Wlasak, Marcel Reith-Braun and Yannik Probst, who finished in 45.10s and secured third place ahead of the relay team from Leipzig.Our women's relay team with Johanna Ossmann, Tabea Müller, Elena Fantino and Kimberly Akinwale also took third place in 51.29s.
