DHM Golf in Frankfurt

Last weekend, the German University Championships took place at the Idstein Golf Park near Frankfurt. With 14 players, including former German champions, the KIT was the strongest team and was able to bring several prizes back to Karlsruhe.

The tournament started for the players with a practice round on the south course on Friday morning. Teeing off at 10.30 a.m., 4 flights started one after the other at hole 1. This first round served to find a suitable course strategy that weighed up the risks and opportunities of the game. Afterwards, the last training session before the game took place on the golf park's practice course.

The first day of the tournament was opened by our top players Jonas Kugel and Julian Schinnenburg at 8 a.m. and 8.10 a.m. respectively. With strong results below the course standard (-2 and -4 respectively), both were able to achieve third place for KIT I together with Alexander Itterheim (+3), just a single stroke behind the two leading teams from Mannheim and Cologne. At the same time, very good results were achieved by Paul Kolb (+1) and Saskia Göhrig (+5).

Now it was time to make up the wafer-thin lead of the other players on the second day and bring the title to Karlsruhe for the third time. The KIT teams showed a strong team spirit: the players who had already completed their round actively supported team members who were still playing on the course.

In the end, it was unfortunately not enough for first place in the team ranking, partly because a new course record was set by a player from Mannheim. Nevertheless, the results of Alexander Itterheim (-1), Nico Kless (+1) and Christine B. (+5) are worth mentioning.

We congratulate our players Christine B. and Saskia Göhrig, who became second and third university champions, Julian Schinnenburg for narrowly missing out on third place in the play-off, and KIT I (Jonas Kugel, Julian Schinnenburg, Alexander Itterheim, Dominic Hinz) for third place in the team competition. Katharina Engelhardt and Jonas Kugel also won special prizes for the women's and men's Nearest to the Pin and Longest Drive respectively. We would also like to thank the players: Nicholas Milenkovic, Benedikt Raab, Charlotte Hoffmann, Dominic Hinz, Franziska Vogt and Florian Dreschner.
