Cologne secures the title again after 22 years

On Saturday, the team competition was held. In "everyone against everyone" mode, WG Cologne first played against the host, WG Karlsruhe. In parallel, last year's champion, the University of Duisburg-Essen, and the newcomer Dresden fought a duel. Right from the start, the players showed a high level and rarely has a match been so balanced. After more than two hours of play, Cologne and Duisburg-Essen fought their way to victory. The students did not give each other a ball in the second match either. The University of Duisburg-Essen was able to score through the ladies, while WG Karlsruhe dominated the men's singles and doubles, so that the mixed was to decide the match. Markus Hennes and Friederike Henze (Uni Duisburg-Essen) kept their nerves and secured the victory. Since the WG Cologne was able to win against Dresden in parallel, it came to the expected final of the two universities from NRW in the last round. Great rallies, peppered with feints and pikes as well as a passionate fight, created a great atmosphere in the hall. Despite great resistance and close games, WG Cologne was able to secure the team title clearly (4:1) and deservedly in the end. In the match for third place, TU Dresden beat the host team 3 to 2.

Burger twins take care of a title for the organizer

On Sunday and Whit Monday, the title holders were determined in the individual competitions. Only in the men's doubles the number 1 of the seed list could take the victory. Lukas Burger (HS Karlsruhe) together with his brother Jonas (DHBW Mosbach) provided the highlight from the organizer's point of view and secured one of the coveted winner's trophies. In a thrilling final, they prevailed 21-13 17-21 22-20 against Pit Hofmann/Johann Höflitz (TU Dresden). Lukas played his second final alongside Franziska Willenbacher (KIT Karlsruhe). But here Markus Hennes/Lena Seibert (Uni Duisburg-Essen/WG Dortmund) kept the upper hand and secured the title of German University Champions for the first time.
In the women's doubles, Annalena Diks and Alicia Molitor dominated the competition and left their opponents Katja Holenz/Sara Janssens (WG Cologne) no chance even in the final. Annalena Diks won her second title in the women's singles. Against Vanessa Seele (WG Köln) she fought her way back from a set deficit and won 18-21 21-14 21-14.
In the men's singles Simon Wang (WG Mannheim) showed his skills and his experience from the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga and won the title with a victory in the HF over Fabian Schlenga (KIT Karlsruhe), who finished third.

Thus there was a new title winner in all 5 competitions. Thanks to the physiotherapeutic care of Physio Balter all players could finish the tournament without any injuries.
