WG Karlsruhe crowned European champion at the EUC 2025 in Budapest

  • Budapest, August 3, 2025 - The WG Karlsruhe caused a real sensation at the European University Volleyball Championships from July 26 to August 3 in Budapest: With an impressive team performance, the Karlsruhe team secured first place and can now call themselves European champions.


    The journey to the title began in the group stage, where they first won 3:0 against the team from Albania. In the second group match, they beat the University of Valencia 3:2 in a thrilling five-set thriller. As there were only 14 instead of 16 teams in the men's tournament and the Karlsruhe team was only in a group of three, they qualified for the quarter-finals as group winners after two matches and were able to enjoy a day's break.


    In the quarter-finals, they then faced the home team from Budapest. With a concentrated and mature performance, Karlsruhe dominated the game and won clearly with 3:0.


    The first German opponent then awaited in the semi-finals. In an emotional duel, WG Karlsruhe clearly beat WG Dresden 3:1 to advance to the grand final.


    The team from the renowned Fenerbahçe University in Istanbul was a real volleyball giant. But Karlsruhe showed nerves of steel, fighting spirit and an absolute will to win. In a high-class final that was hard to beat in terms of excitement, the German team finally prevailed 3:2 and celebrated the greatest success in the university's history.


    With this triumph, the WG Karlsruhe made sporting history and brought the European Championship title to Karlsruhe. In addition to the title, the team shone with its team spirit, tactical maturity and unshakeable cohesion - a true success story in European university volleyball.
