  • The student fencing tournament "Fechten am See" took place this year from June 23-25 in Constance on Lake Constance. The KIT fencing department was represented by a strong group of 11 fencers and won 3 gold medals and a bronze medal.

On Saturday, epee and foil were fenced in marathon mode. The list of participants was well filled with fencers from various universities and fencing clubs in Germany. 43 participants were registered in foil; 53 in epee. Women and men fenced mixed, but were scored separately.

Fiona Kraus, head coach of the fencing department, was able to secure the gold medal in the women's foil against clearly inferior competition.

Alexander Kraus won a bronze medal in the men's foil. Fabian Bauer finished the competition in a very good 16th place, Hauke Jimenez directly behind him in 17th place. Georg Melchior, who had learned fencing at the KIT and gained his first tournament experience at the weekend, finished in 29th place.

In the women's épée, only Laura Lingel competed for the KIT and achieved an excellent 6th place against strong competition.

The men's epee was scheduled after the foil and accordingly fencers who had already fenced foil had a special task to solve with the large number of participants. The men of the KIT succeeded in doing this solidly; Alexander Kraus finished the competition in 8th place, Max Frankenhauser reached 11th place, Andras Bence Pasztor fenced himself to 20th place, Simon Liehmann to 23rd place and Daniel Brommer reached 32nd place.

Sabre and the team competition were scheduled for Sunday. In the men's sabre, KIT competition coach Daniel Brommer was able to hold his own against all competition and won the gold medal.

In the "4-person mixed team" competition, two epee and two foil fencers fenced together in teams drawn at random before the start. The mode here was a seeding round and then a knockout system in which all places were fought out. Andras Bence Pasztor and his team won the gold medal. Fabian Bauer and his team came 5th, Fiona Kraus 6th, Max Frankenhauser 8th, Matthias Wolsfeld 9th and Alexander Kraus 12th.

Overall, the competition was a complete sporting success and the fencers were able to leave a good impression in Constance.
