  • On November 03, 2023 it was time again. The German University Judo Championships took place in beautiful Constance on Lake Constance. Once again, the athletes from KIT and other universities and colleges in Karlsruhe took part. A total of 22 judoka formed the delegation from Karlsruhe, making up an important part of the 500-strong starting field.

The individual championships traditionally take place on Saturdays. Once again this year, the experienced judokas were able to demonstrate their skills. A number of placings were achieved in the various weight classes and many fights were won. Marco and Jens were able to secure 7th place in the highly competitive weight classes up to -81kg and -73kg. Up to -90kg, former department head Arnold once again asserted himself with his special technique and finished the tournament in 5th place, as did his training partner Julian, who finished 5th in the heavyweight category, just like last year. The women from Karlsruhe also put up a strong fight, but were unfortunately unable to secure a place this year. During the evening program, the whole team once again showed what team spirit means and how team spirit is lived.

On Sunday, the team competitions for the German University Championship title took place. New this year was a mixed team competition for newcomers. This allows judokas who have only recently taken up judo to compete against like-minded people from all over Germany. Of course, the team from Karlsruhe also took part. Many exciting fights and team encounters later, the team was able to celebrate 3rd place. The classic mixed team, with many unoccupied weight classes but highly motivated fighters, had to settle for 7th place in the end - nevertheless a strong performance considering the number of sports universities.

All in all, it was another successful weekend that showed once again why training always pays off.
