Research

The research at the Institute of Sports and Sports Science serves to expand our knowledge in sports science and also provides the scientific foundation for and further development of teaching and degree studies. The research activities cover sports science theories, the development of diagnostic methods and exercise programs as well as their implementation and quality assurance.
The key areas are sports development, school sport research, fitness and health research as well as movement research and biomechanics.

Study opportunities

The Institute of Sports and Sports Science offers the sports science bachelor's degree programme together with the health and fitness management minor and the consecutive sports science master’s degree program, as well as teaching degrees which focus on sports education for the scientific teaching qualification at secondary level, as well as a sport elective for sports instructors.
As part of the teaching degree's program, Institute of Sports and Sports Science, together with the Institut für Bewegungserziehung und Sport of the Pädagogischen Hochschule Karlsruhe, has created the 'Karlsruhe Model of Teacher Education'. Thanks to the opening up of study programs for students of both universities, the teacher degree program at the location Karlsruhe is unique in the state of Baden-Württemberg.
