Runner-up at the 3x3 DHM in Mainz

  • Datum: 15.07.2026
  • The German Collegiate Championship (DHM) in 3x3 basketball took place in Mainz on the first weekend of July. KIT was represented by a team consisting of two players from the IO College Wizards and two players from the PSK Lions (2025–26 season). With the same lineup, the team will also compete in the European University Championships in Salerno, Italy, at the end of July, so the DHM served as a dress rehearsal.

Right from the start, they faced a formidable opponent in the University of Tübingen. However, the Karlsruhe team impressed from the start with a dominant performance and won decisively, 21–11. The other two group matches on the first day of the tournament also went smoothly, with wins of 22–9 and 22–8, respectively.

On the morning of the second day of the tournament, the final group match against the host team from Mainz was on the schedule. Karlsruhe also won this match without much difficulty, 22–10, and thus advanced to the quarterfinals as the undefeated group winner. There, they faced Tübingen’s second team, against whom they also secured an unchallenged 22–9 victory.

In the semifinals, the team faced Göttingen and was truly challenged for the first time in the tournament. Despite some temporary difficulties, the team maintained control and prevailed 16–12. This secured their spot in the final.

The final against Cologne turned out to be an intense and hard-fought match. While Karlsruhe’s shots were not as accurate as in previous games, Cologne capitalized on its opportunities consistently and pulled ahead at the decisive moments. In the end, Karlsruhe was defeated 15–21 and had to settle for the title of German University Runner-Up.

Despite the loss in the final, the team can look forward to the upcoming European University Championships in Salerno with great confidence. The tournament demonstrated that the team is already well-coordinated and can compete at the international level.

Another highlight for Karlsruhe came from David Scheu, who won the shooting contest at the German University Championships.
