The German Collegiate Golf Championships took place from July 3 to 5, 2026. The event was hosted by the University of Passau’s Sports Center in cooperation with the Quellness Golf Resort Bad Griesbach.
The participating universities arrived in Passau as early as Friday. During a practice round, the players were able to familiarize themselves with the challenging course and devise their strategies for the competition days.
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was represented by two teams.
KIT Team 1: Lars Werny, Trutz Hähl-Pfeifer, Luzie Kettner, and Ann-Kathrin Fritz
KIT Team 2: Liam Fechner, Eckart Schmid, and Moritz Herrmann
The first day of the tournament presented the participants with major challenges due to high temperatures and strong gusts of wind. Nevertheless, the first KIT team got off to a solid start. After the first round, the team was in second place, just four strokes behind the strong team from the University of Münster.
An exciting battle for the top spot also unfolded in the individual standings. A player from the University of Münster was in the lead, closely followed by Lars Werny (KIT) and a player from the University of Heidelberg.
On Sunday, changeable weather conditions once again made for challenging playing conditions. The second KIT team delivered a strong team performance throughout the weekend and secured an outstanding 4th place ahead of the University of Aachen team.
However, the favored team from the University of Münster proved unbeatable. The second team nevertheless secured second place ahead of the University of Heidelberg, thereby claiming the title of 2026 German runner-up.
The sporting highlight came from Lars Werny, who withstood the pressure from his competitors and ultimately pulled decisively ahead on the final three holes. With an impressive finish, he won the men’s individual title and is the 2026 German Collegiate Champion.
In addition to our players’ athletic successes and numerous top finishes, we would like to thank all our fellow players, the ADH, the University of Passau, and the team at Gutshof Brunnwies for the excellent organization and the great atmosphere.
