EUC Golf in Antequera

The KIT delegation consisting of Katharina Engelhardt, Christine Bitterle, Tim Flaschel, Jonas Kirner and Alexander Itterheim set off on their trip to Antequera near Málaga early in the morning of 22.06.19.

This year, the sixth European University Golf Championships took place there, for which KIT qualified in the course of the German Championships the previous year. Once we arrived in Spain, a well-organized team of volunteers from the University of Málaga and an excellent 4-star hotel in Antequera awaited us. The delegation used the rest of Saturday to get to know the other teams and find their way around the hotel's extensive food buffet. After the warm-up round on Sunday, the motivation in the team was unbeatable, as the relatively short golf course has its pitfalls but offers the opportunity to achieve very good results. After the first of four tournament rounds, however, it quickly became clear that neither team would be playing for victory. The invitation to the welcome ceremony in Antequera town hall was a welcome distraction for the participants after the results fell short of expectations. The remaining days of the tournament were similar and the results continued to fall short of the individual goals, but the consistently positive atmosphere in the team was not dampened by the performances. Another highlight was the evening event on Tuesday. All participants were invited to the former monastery Hotel Convento La Magdalena, which now welcomes its guests as a 5-star hotel. With an excellent 3-course menu and equally outstanding service, the location left nothing to be desired.

In the end, the ladies were able to settle for a shared 5th place, but for the men of the KIT it was only enough for penultimate place ahead of the University of St. Gallen.

We would like to congratulate the delegation from the University of Stirling for the victory of their men's team and the University of Abat Oliba CEU for their victory in the women's competition.

Finally, we would like to thank all the volunteers and the entire organization team who made this event possible.
