KIT with silver at the DHM Triathlon

  • On Sunday, May 14, the triathlon department of university sports took a large group of 12 students and employees to the German University Championships in Griesheim. For the second time in a row, the DHM Triathlon, organized by HS Darmstadt, took place in Griesheim on 14 May and was once again held as part of the TuS Griesheim Short Track Triathlon.

At the meeting point at 5:00 a.m., you could see that most of the participants had had a short night, but they were also looking forward to a packed day of triathlon. After an hour's drive, they had already arrived at the competition venue and the final preparations could be made before the men started at 8:00 a.m. in the well-tempered indoor pool - the women started 20 minutes later. There was a real battle for positions, especially in the men's race, with 8 athletes in each 25-meter lane. After 500 meters, the athletes entered the winding transition zone and onto their bikes, where a 400-meter gravel section put their equipment to the test. Afterwards, however, it rolled very well. The final part of the race was the run on beautiful forest paths.

Christian Krämer was the fastest KIT runner in the men's race, finishing in 5th place with a time of 53:23. Anja Kricheldorf finished third in the women's race, but was unable to cross the finish line due to a time penalty and missing the penalty box - an outstanding performance nonetheless.

As the one triathlon was not enough, the best possible recovery was on the agenda immediately after the finish in order to be fit again for the team relay in the early afternoon. Four KIT teams consisting of two men and one woman were entered. The team relay consisted of three super sprint triathlon races (225-5-1) in succession. When studying the start lists, all scenarios were already played out, which is also what makes this attractive and tactical format so appealing.

The starting shot was fired at 13:40 for the first starter, who then handed over to the woman. Once again, a man finished the race. Jasper Püschel, Saskia Haug and Christian Krämer were able to position themselves very well early on in the high-speed race, so that in the end it was enough for second place with a (somewhat bitter) 4-second gap.
